2U, Our Program Partner

2U logoThe UC Berkeley School of Information (I School) has partnered with 2U Inc. to deliver the Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program. Founded in 2008 by a team of education and technology veterans, 2U enables colleges and universities to deliver their high-quality degree programs online to qualified students anywhere.

In addition to the I School, 2U works with a number of leading universities to support their online graduate programs, including the University of Southern California, Georgetown University, and Northwestern University. 2U supports programs across the fields of education, social work, nursing, business, public administration, law, international affairs, public health, health care administration, data science, communications, and counseling.

2U provides the following services for the MIDS program:

Content Production

In preparation for live classes, students watch prerecorded content that is developed by I School faculty and produced in collaboration with 2U content strategists. The content is designed specifically for delivery online, and faculty work with 2U strategists and video production specialists to ensure that the content takes advantage of current technologies.

Student Acquisition and Application Processing

2U's marketing and recruiting team supports the I School's goal of finding students who are most likely to succeed in the rigorous Master of Information and Data Science program. 2U worked with the I School to develop an online application management system, but as with all UC Berkeley programs, all applications are reviewed and admissions decisions are made by UC Berkeley faculty and staff.

Technology and Support

Students in the Master of Information and Data Science program access a virtual campus for their classes, coursework, and networking. The 2U platform is available from most Internet-enabled devices and features an online classroom that brings students face-to-face for live class sessions. Classes are led by I School faculty and instructors and the virtual campus is designed with familiar features that foster connection and collaboration among students.

2U provides technical training for faculty and instructors so they are best able to use the online platform to lead classes and deliver course materials. 2U also offers orientation to all online students before classes begin. Dedicated support continues throughout the program with technical support available during every live session.
